About Us
Market at High Point is well known as a hub for forging new relationships and finding new opportunities within the design community.
Yet when the COO of the Pacific Design Center landed in North Carolina with the goal of finding possible new tenants and the Boston Showroom Manager for Kittinger furniture began setting up her showcase house for market promotion, they certainly didn’t see this kind of relationship coming. After that chance meeting on a porch on a cool April evening and a subsequent long-distance Los Angeles to Boston courtship, marriage and family soon followed.
After raising a family and “unofficially” working together for years in support of Joan’s interior design business while Jeff held various executive positions in the creative fields, they at last decided to “officially” work together and found J. Grady Home in 2019.
They were fortunate to begin operations in the Annisquam Village Hall with a front porch that was indeed the front porch to the community. Finn, their golden retriever, became a constant sentinel there, at the ready to greet and play ball with any and all passersby.
While always having their eye on the possibility of having a presence in Boston, when pandemic-era opportunities presented themselves in the historic and storied district of Beacon Hill, they quickly made the leap and opened J. Grady Home on Charles Street. Envisioned as an interior design studio with creatively curated boutique home store, vision soon became reality and doors opened in 2021. With the much-appreciated support from the community and the many visitors to Beacon Hill, the business has continued to evolve and grow.
Finn has re-established his position as J. Grady Home Concierge and can be found most often right in the doorway on Charles Street. Please come by and say hello…
Joan Grady
Principal Designer
Joan was drawn to design early on. Order, simplicity, comfort and getting the colors just right, have always been key for her in creating livable and enjoyable surroundings, both personally and professionally. She initially studied interior design at Drexel University in her home town of Philadelphia, but soon had an opportunity to work in Japan as an art consultant and interior designer to the foreign community. Her projects were both residential and commercial in scope, including Bain and Company’s Tokyo offices.
Aside from her experience working for classic furniture lines such as Kittinger, Joan has worked as an interior designer for clients throughout Boston, Cape Ann, and the Northeast for over 20 years. Well known throughout the Boston design community, her contacts, relationships and resources have brought the strength of experience to her creative design. She believes good design should be elegant, comfortable and bring a smile to your face. Her vision starts with the aim of designing lovely, traditionally minded interiors with unexpected touches of pattern and color, however listening to the client is always the top design priority.
JefF Grady
Working in finance positions throughout his career, Jeff has always endeavored to tame a strong passion for the arts. Prior operating roles in industries such as music, design, real estate and architecture have certainly helped to temper his dissonance. Bringing inspiration to reality, he loves to guide the creative process toward the marketplace. He has worked with designers, architects, musicians, writers, painters, song writers, artists, preservationists, archivists, software engineers, and inventors.
Without proper supervision he has been known to reach a level of un-retractable attention deficit upon entering any museum, library or used record store.
